Mini-Blog: Shoe Falls Off

While passing through the turnstile, attempting to leave the subway, my shoe flew off.

Do your shoes come with laces?

I just heard on Stern Eric The Midge saying “There’s a fucking foot in that shoe!!” hahaha

Mini-Blog: Google Chrome

I’m tired of how slow Firefox has gotten and I can’t stand how it screws up on YouTube and other video sites every now and then. It’s still a new development … but it might be a permanent one: hello, Google Chrome!

Twice The Weekend

Photo © 2009 Stan Syckes

Ugh … I know. I’ve been lax in my stanus.nut duties. But I just have so many other responsibilities that I must attend to each day, as well. I have been doing a shit load of work on my basketball blog, NBA Sim, and while I’m sure no one is really all that interested in basketball you might get a kick out of checking it out from time to time.

Anyway, after working for 13 straight days I was rewarded with Friday the 13th off (whoa … didn’t notice that until now), resulting in a 4-day weekend! ‘Twas very hot. I played a lot of video games, did well in my weekly basketball game, watched a lot of Netflix, played some guitar, and pretty much just came back to reality. This weekend was also Valentine’s Day weekend so I surprised Cassie with tickets to Mamma Mia! (which, completely made up of ABBA songs, was one of the only shows this non-Broadway fan would’ve lived through). Again, I’m not the biggest Broadway enthusiast but I did enjoy myself. And my gift was a 22 oz. Heinekin beer and a box of Wheat Thins (!!!) during a basketball game on TV. What can I say … Cassie and I are excellent gifters.

No, I don’t know why I felt compelled to put so many links in there.

This weekend also welcomed the newest member of the apartment: my customized Dallas Mavericks jersey. Emblazoned with the number 3 and “SYCKES” on the back I truly have fallen into insanity about this whole basketball business. I really don’t know what I was thinking. You know how there are always those annoying ads on the sides and tops of websites? Well, they are getting smarter as all of the ones I come across point me to the NBA store! One time on there I found the customized jersies were on sale for like $40 so I plunked down the green and am now an official member of the Mavericks roster!

That’s really about it. Things are quieting down on other fronts so I anticipate being able to put more effort into stanus.butt soon. Till then: to the DohDrop!!!

Mini-Blog: No Camera = No Blogs

Having a broken camera is really hampering my blog output! The post I’ve been wanting to write necessitated a very embarrassing/awesome photo.

2008: A Year In Stanus

Some people have been bitching about the Mini Blogs. Well, here’s one of the reasons why they have been implemented!

The 2008 Year-In-Review was a project I began mid-December and it is only now that I am finishing it up! And that’s even after I scrapped one category entirely (photos)! Ugh … ridiculous. Still, I’m proud of this work, but will use this as a lesson in keeping projects trim and manageable. Yeah right.

Mini Blog: Unzipped!

Um … I walked 10 city blocks, rode a crowded subway train, and sat at my desk for half an hour before I realized my fly was unzipped.

It could be worse someone at work could have pointed it out to you.

Mix Master

Man, it’s been so long since I even touched my guitar. I’ve been climbing up the walls wanting to get some music started after finally getting 3 CDs worth of drum samples. But then I suffered a stupid hand injury. While waiting for it to completely heal, I started another musical project – one that I promised myself to complete before moving on to anything else.

Almost a year ago I posed the question: are mix tapes a lost art? Well, I guess the answer is no as the musical project I was referring to is my first mix in three and a half years. Putting together an intelligent list of songs framed by a singular theme is actually a lot more work than it sounds. Well, ok, maybe I just put more work into these things than they necessarily require but whatever! Actually, I estimate that I put about 20 hours into the making of this mix.

I invest so much time and work into these damn things that I built a quick feature showing a lot of the ideas that went into them called The Greatest Mixes Of All Time! Check it out … if you dare!

But putting together this mix was a great way to get myself off my ass and work with Adobe Audition, again – the program I use to write and record songs with, as well. And this dedication worked: I was so inspired after finishing this project that I restrung my acoustic guitar and started gearing up for some writing. Prepare thyself!

How could you make a Chris Chan mix without Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up?”

Mini Blog: No Heat

I’m actually wearing a hat in the office today. We’ve had no hot water for 2 nights and no heat last night. Yes, do the math, that means no showers for two straight days!!!!
