The Backburner (Part 3)

Over the past two months, I’ve posted installments about all of the huge creative undertakings I’m currently working on. Who knows when these will ever be done, if they are even ever completed. That won’t stop me from finishing my task of talking about them, though. Here is the final installment of this life-changing trilogy, nay, thirllogy!

The Backburner (Part 1)
The Backburner (Part 2)

Project NBA Sim
Progress: 75.9% !!!
Initial Start: May 2006
# of Restarts: ca. 3
Status: Close to completion!
ETA: November 2007 <- hot!

The story behind the project that is hands down my most overwhelming (at the moment) is long and boring. Basically, I started out wanting to see which basketball team had the best playoff roster of all time by simulating a tournament on my PS2/PS3. Then I fleshed that out to see which NBA team had the best all-time roster. Then I decided to use these tournaments to determine my own holy grail formula that would encapsulate everything a basketball player does into one number – a number that could be used to compare him to any other player, regardless of year, position, or non-Nowitzki-ness. These last two months I have been gunning it to get this first season (yes, first … of many!) of the tournament out. I’ve found lots of flaws, but I refuse to stop and start over again. I need a good foundation. This will be complete within a week!

Seinfeld, Seinsmelled
Initial Start: Spring 2004
Status: Slow, but steady
ETA: 2009

Seinfeld, Seinsmelled was conceived during my lost semester – the 6 months just after my college graduation, when I had a lot of free time on my hands. I wanted to watch and review every Seinfeld episode in order and this was just before the DVDs came out, so I had to find … alternative means to watch these. But, when the DVDs were released I decided to finally teach myself PHP and build my first, homemade dynamic website. Yes, I taught myself PHP for Seinfeld, Seinsmelled! This is a labor of love, though I have to take massive amounts of time off in between seasons, as each episode is so taxing (at least two full viewings of the show, then another hour to set up the page). However, it’s been so long since I regularly watched Seinfeld that each episode now feels like lost treasure!

Are the Mavs still in the NBA sim tournament?

I don’t have the information before me … but I think they lost in the first round 4-1 against the All-Time Suns 🙁

Did Dirk fold under the pressure?

By the way – The Playoff Dirks lead their fantasy basketball opponent 8 to 1 at the moment… Whoever the random opponent is, I feel sorry for them.

How’d that matchup you led 8-1 end up, by the by? (HINT: The “random” opponent won 5-3)

barely…. a single 3 pointer and a free throw would have tipped the scales in the other direction!
