I Will Be Playing Video Games When I’m 80

I love video games and I’m convinced they will be our bridge, gin, and poker (ok, maybe not the case for Brandon Jonesjobber) when we all become senior citizens. At the very least, I will be playing enough for all of us at that age.

Recently, I’ve become addicted to watching videos of people playing through old video games on YouTube. I have always been into video games and it’s weird to discover that love doesn’t require me at the helm. My OCD-like attributes only flare up when it comes to completing games, so it’s nice sometimes to just sit back and observe someone else doing it to old games I never finished or arcades that would be too expensive to get through. It’s quick (usually 30-40 minutes), easy, and fully presses the pleasure button in my brain.

So far I’ve watched full playthroughs of:
The Simpsons (1991, Arcade) – done by 4 players, hot!
The Punisher (1993, Arcade)
X-Men (1992, Arcade)
Police Quest (1987, PC) – which I recall playing as a kid
King’s Quest (1984, PC)
King’s Quest II (1985, PC)
King’s Quest III (1986, PC)
Battletoads (1991, NES)
Double Dragon (1987, Arcade)
Double Dragon II (1989, NES)
Double Dragon III (1991, NES)
I’m sure there are several others, but I can’t remember them at the moment.

In other video game news, I’m playing through my second fantasy football season and it’s a lot more fun. This time around, I’m playing in a league with 5 other people I know (the other 4 people are randoms). I’m currently in second place, but anything happens in these leagues – for example, when I lost the championship by 1 point :( ! Ok, back to pretending to work.
