01. Eminem - Without Me I like to start mixes with something that dates it, and this was Eminem's latest big hit at the time. It begins with the introduction to his album, "The Eminem Show" (sounds of a rollercoaster and carnival music) that scratches into this track. |
02. Arnold Calls Gateway Part 1 This mix was made before I came up with the mix theme idea, but I still knew I needed something besides just songs to make it interesting. I decided to break up an old Arnold Schwarzenegger soundboard crank call that I first heard and loved the year before. |
03. Elvis Presley - A Little Less Conversation [Remix] This song was huge at the time - it was in Nike commercials and in "Ocean's 11." |
04. System Of A Down - Toxicity Though "Toxicity" was big much earlier in the year, it seemed like the one of the only semi-good rock song for the entire summer, so I threw it on here. |
05. Arnold Calls Gateaway Part 2 More from the Arnold call ... |
06. Madonna - Human Nature I believe I got this from hearing it on one of my brother's mix CDs. I'd always liked it when it first came out at the beginning of my Mtv watching days. |
07. Korn - Here To Stay Another semi-ok rock song from the summer. |
08. U2 - Elevation I wasn't a big fan of U2's first single "Beautiful Day" but I thought this rocker was alright. |
09. Jimmy Page & Robert Plant - Heart In Your Hand I really liked this album cut off of "Walking into Clarksdale," especially when I saw Jimmy and Robert live. I must have rediscovered this album over the summer. |
10. Howard Stern - Beetlejuice For Senator The best wack-packer of all time. I needed another song-break and this was something I had just found online. Great stuff. |
11. Good Charlotte - Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous Like most of these songs, here's another from the time that I now regret putting on this mix. |
12. The Strokes - Last Nite A song several of my friends were into earlier in the year. It was a little more indie than I liked, initially, but it grew on me. |
13. Norah Jones - Don't Know Why A guilty pleasure from the summer - I remember instantly liking it when I first heard it in the Tower Records parking lot, waiting to pick up el Stever from work one night. |
14. *N Sync - Gone This song had actually already been released for a year and forgotten. I don't remember what it was that made me put it on here ... probably saw it again on Mtv or something. |
15. The Usual Suspects - "Hand Me The Keys You Fucking Cocksucker" I could have easily made a Usual Suspects themed mix, as I'd always been a huge fan of the movie. Maybe this planted the seed for future mixes! I edited this heavily. I got it to play in this order: Pollack-Byrne-Spacey-Baldwin-Del Toro (it originally went ). |
16. No Doubt - Hella Good A huge song during Spring Break 2002. This was played all night on giant speakers outside of my Panama City hotel. |
17. John Mayer - No Such Thing I remember not liking this song until I heard it late at night while driving to a party at Dave Algoso's house. We had always gone to his place to play pool, trivial pusuit, and just shoot the shit during high school and this song crystalized the idea of after-high school awkwardness. |
18. Britney Spears - Overprotected I thought this song was so awesome when I heard it, but it really lacks that magic that "Oops I Did It Again" and "...Baby One More Time" had (and it was painfully obvious this song was supposed to be the next one in that group). Yet another regrettable selection. |
19. Sloan - The Other Man I hadn't ever heard of this Canadian band before, but I loved this video/song from when it would appear on our Fuse channel in my South View apartment. |
20. Phantom Planet - Lonely Day I don't remember 100% how I got into this song. I'm guessing it was another one I saw on Fuse. |
