Best
The Departed
This was hands down the best movie I saw all year - and this year included some good movies! I felt the back of my neck get stiff I was so tense watching some of the scenes. And what an acting powerhouse this has - Nicholson is evil incarnate! I won't give anything away in case you haven't seen it, but it has an intense, Shakespearian ending to its gripping plot. Wow!

2nd Best
Chinatown
It was a close call between this and "Casino Royal," but there were several scenes in the later movie I rolled my eyes at. "Chinatown," on the other hand is perfect. It's like the movie equivalent to a Tin Pan Alley song - it's so compact and self-contained. Everything in it happens naturally, and Nicholson in noir = sexiness!

2nd Worst
Pleasantville
What a crap-ball of sap this was. I thought it was kind of an interesting, although hokey idea for a premise, but I was completely caught off guard with what resulted. Despite change and rebellion being the main points of the movie there is nothing new or challenging here. Watching this borefest eventually turned into a test of endurance - I just wanted to see if I could survive seeing the whole thing. I managed to walk out alive, but barely!

Worst
American Dreamz
I was trapped on a plane on the way back from London and I'd already watched the only movie of our selection that I wanted to watch. "American Dreamz" seemed to be the best of the rest ... instead it turns out to be the worst movie I saw all year. Pure trash that was just trying to rake in a few bucks off the American Idol craze. Ugh.
